How to Select a Lift Chair

Lift chairs come in a variety of styles, distinguished by the number of positions to which they can adjust. Read the descriptions of the various options below to determine which lift chair style best suits your lift chair needs.

Two Position Lift Chairs are basic and affordable yet highly functional. They feature a sitting (or reading) position and a lifted position, clearly the two most common and critical positions a chair can offer.

Like their two-position counterparts, Three Position Lift Chairs include the sitting and lifted states, but can also adjust to a modest recline. While not a full recline, the angle is sufficient for resting and napping, and as a result has found a popular audience among lift-chair consumers.

The most elastic of the lift chair options is known as the Infinite Position Lift Chair, which can recline fully, and even can elevate the feet above the heart cavity – a position known in some circles as the Trendelenburg Position. The dual motors allow you to independently adjust the footrest and back for the most comfortable or convenient position.

For bariatric patients (those weighing more than 375 pounds), Heavy Duty Lift Chairs can accommodate weights of up to 700 pounds, as well as above-average heights. The dual motor system on these chairs reduces tension to prolong motor life.

Finally, Seat Lifts transform any chair into a lift chair. A bit more affordable than full-blown lift chairs, they also provide the versatility to travel long distances or just from room to room within the house.

Frequently Asked Questions, Answered

Will Medicare pay for my Lift Chair?
To qualify for a lift chair reimbursement, a patient must meet the following criteria:

Patient must suffer from major arthritis of the hip or knee, or from a severe neuromuscular disease.
Patient must be incapable of reaching a standing position on his/her own from a standard armchair in his/her home. (Please note: Medicare does not qualify a patient who has difficulty rising from an arm-less chair, particularly a low one, but could rise on his/her own from a raised chair or one with arms. The chair lift reimbursement covers only those who cannot rise at all from an arm chair.)
Once standing, the patient must have the ability to walk.

Note that, even in qualifying cases, Medicare covers only the seat-lift mechanism itself (typically up to $300, depending on the state). In addition, the patient’s attending physician for the condition under treatment must also be the prescribing physician for the chair lift. Please review our Medicare Policy for details.

Will I be charged sales tax?
No tax outside New York. Sales tax is only collected on taxable merchandise shipped within New York State.

Is there a cost for shipping or is it FREE?
MSD offers FREE ground shipping on all lift chairs, as well as on any order over $100.

Can I return my lift chair if it does not meet my expectations?
Yes. If you decide that the lift chair you have purchased does not meet your expectations, you may return it if it’s in new, unused and resalable condition within 30 days of purchase and must be in its original packaging. The consumer is responsible for any freight or shipping costs associated with this return.

If the lift chair was delivered defective or damaged, MSD will assume the cost of the return shipment as well as the delivery of your replacement product. Please review our Return Policy for complete details.
