How to Select a Rollator

Weight & Height
Measuring and adjusting your rollator can be done simply through the following procedure: stand behind the device with your feet aligned with the back wheels. It should be approximately hips-high, and your arms should be bent at a slight angle (approximately 20 - 30 degrees) while gripping the handles.

Junior size rollators work well for users approximately 4'8" up to 5'2" and have 250 lbs – 300 lbs weight capacity. Standard Adult-size rollators work for 5'3" up to 5'11". Tall-size rollators will fit 5'11" - 6'4". Those users that require additional height; an optional tall handlebar extensions can be purchased (available on select models only).

Be sure to purchase the rollator with both its height and weight compatibility in mind. Most devices are adjustable to a degree, but beyond that point you may need to purchase a larger size.

Wheel Size
Wheels typically come in either 6” or 8” sizes. The general rule is the larger the wheel, the sturdier and more rugged it is. For example, users with a larger body type, or who spends a great deal of time outside would likely benefit from the 8” size, while smaller or primarily indoor users could manage with the 6” variety. Keep in mind your body type and activity level when selecting the appropriate wheels.

Seats (4-Wheel Only)
Padding comes in a variety of styles and quality levels, ranging from cheaper foam-on-board types at the low end to molded seat cushions at the upper echelon. Of course, the higher quality padding is reflected in the relative costs.

Each product’s specifications page lists the seat-to-floor height, which is important for determining ease of mounting or dismounting. The higher seats generally are easier for this purpose, but once again, individual height is paramount in this decision.

The widths range depending on the overall rollator size – whether junior, standard, or bariatric. The broad range can be anywhere from 13” to 22”.

Brakes
Rollators come with either hand or pressure (push down) brakes. Hand brakes are more like bicycle style brakes that are attached beneath the handles and require the user to squeeze them to activate braking. Users that do not have the strength to operate the hand breaks may find it easier to use the pressure (push down) breaking system.

Shipped Assembled
The rollators are shipped fully assembled, except for the removable handle-bars and backrests, which are included but not inserted. This does not require any tools to re-attach or to adjust the positioning at a later time.
